Letter to the editor from Larry McNorton, published at HenryHerald.com, June 17th, 2016:
Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11, the Georgia chapter of the Constitution Party held its annual statewide convention here in Henry County at the Hampton Inn in McDonough. The keynote speaker Friday night was the Constitution Party’s 2016 presidential candidate, Mr. Darrell Castle. I had the pleasure to escort this gentleman around Henry and Butts counties introducing him to political and business leaders. I tried hard to get the local newspapers to meet with this man but they were just not interested.
Not interested?? I was floored. No, he is not a Republican. No, he is not a Democrat. He is a third party candidate, therefore (yawn) he is not newsworthy. This year, like never before, millions of Americans are calling for a third party candidate. Even the two major parties have people in their ranks calling for a third party. Mitt Romney of the Republicans is breathing fire against the presumptive candidate Donald Trump. Bernie Sanders is making no bones that he is going to be as disruptive as he can at the Democrat’s convention, and if that doesn’t work, he is going to run as a third party candidate if the Democrats do not select him over Clinton (I know everyone calls her Hillary. I am careful as to with whom I get on a first name basis.)
Yet Romney and Sanders are calling for a third party for a purely self-serving, individualistic reason. They want to be president and they are not taking no for an answer. Their desire to be president is not for the greater good of America or even for the greater good of the party to which they claim allegiance. They want to be president and they will hold their breath until the American voters acquiesce. Even the two presumptive candidates of the people’s choice are labeled the lesser of two evils each by those that support them. This is what we call newsworthy in our little corner of the time space continuum. God help America! Even the two presumptive candidates of the people’s choice are labeled the lesser of two evils each by those that support them.
